City Hall, or Transit Center?

When I read that Sound Transit wanted to build a parking garage for the Bothell Transit Center, I kind of figured that they were going to put it at the existing Park and Ride.

Maybe I should try reading the fine print more often.

Phone post

Downtown seattle on a friday night. The drummer across the street from the busstop pounds on his tubs. The crowd mills by the Cheesecake Factory.

Metro feedback

I mentioned over on Scoble’s post that I had just missed him at the Seattle Central Library tonight: I had ducked in because I wanted to leave some feedback to Metro about a bad experience with my driver.

The driver came up to the stop in the middle lane and abruptly turned into the stop, ignoring the bike on the side of the road, which was then placed between the back half of the bus and the roadcurb, apparently with less than a foot of clearance, as I could see when I got off the bus. As I got off, I commented that he hadn’t left the bike much room.

Driver: “What bike?”

Me: “The bike back there that you cut off.”

Driver: “Things happen.”

Me: “THINGS HAPPEN???”

Driver: “Well, what should I have done?”

Me: “Well, maybe let the bike pass you instead of cutting it off.”

Driver: “If you say so.”

Me: “Yes, I say so!”

Rather irked at his behavior (there may have been a couple more lines in here), I said,

“Well, I’ll call your supervisor, and see what they think about it!”

The driver responded,

“Go ahead, they don’t care!”

The phrase “Get a life” was also used at some point. I’d like to point out that at this point, I was outside the bus, and he was driving alongside me with the door open so that he could continue yelling. There was another passenger waiting at the stop who agreed with me about the driver’s behavior, in more colorful terms than I had used.

Phone post

I’m down under the west Seattle bridge, where it looks like a bus and car wrestled for possesion of the same lane.
Bus won, of course.

Dabbling in ecommerce

After finding out that CafePress could make calendars, I thought I’d give it a try. I created one with my pictures from the closing of the Metro bus tunnel in downtown Seattle. I also created a miniposter of the Pioneer Square station and some postcards of a picture of Erin reaching for a bird in flight.

If you’re interested, check them out at donnael Designs. :-)

Poetry on buses

Ah, I knew this had to be on the web somewhere, but I kept forgetting to look it up as soon as I got off the bus. :-) King County Metro has an annual poetry competition, and posts the winners up with the ads over the seats.

Seattle Monorail

I want to comment on it, but really, what’s to say?

Flickr shots here — as we get further away from 11/28, you may have to scroll a bit.

Last bus

I caught the last bus through the tunnel tonight. When I got to the International District station, I noticed that I wasn’t the only one packing a camera. I also noticed that there were a few more people there than were usual for 6:50 on a Friday evening. :-)

When we got on, there was cheering, applause, and singing — even if the driver had to almost threaten bodily harm to get “The Wheels on the Bus” to stop. :-) One woman even brought flowers for the driver.

Most of the people got off at Convention Place, and the bus continued its route.

Hmm, wonder if I should catch the first bus through when it re-opens
