TinyURL.com, which for years has been shortening URLs to make query strings fit in your emails, has now started allowing custom aliases for the URLs.
For example, I just linked to a NewsBank story from the Anchorage Daily News about Sarah Palin firing the police chief and library chief for “not fully supporting her efforts to govern” as http://tinyurl.com/mayorfirespolicechief.
There’s a new rule that’s been promulgated by the White House that lets health care professionals opt out of abortions, sterilizations, and anything else that they can stretch the rule to cover, like Plan B.
This would be a very good time to go up to the Planned Parenthood website, which has a form letter you can modify to send up to Health and Human Services to tell them what you think of this assault on women’s rights to safe and effective healthcare in the 30 days before the rule goes into effect.
It’s apparently official. Unfortunately, I got the email before the text message, which was a bit disappointing…

Oh, and they’re also trying to put a clause in their contracts that says they can refuse to do business with an author if the author does something to make them unsuitable to be a children’s author. (The English Roses, anyone?)
