New Seattle Public Library Central Branch

The Seattle Public Library has been working on its new Central Branch almost since we arrived in town five years ago. This past week, the building re-opened, to nationwide fanfare.

We went downtown today to check things out for ourselves.

How to test without Windows Themes

In VFP, there are a bunch of ways to turn off XP Themes. One of them is to select the EXE’s Properties in Windows Explorer and turn them off there. A while back, I needed to write a test that would verify this actually worked, but I didn’t want to figure out how to click that option in Explorer. After searching MSDN, I came up with the following.

*!* We can turn Disable Visual Themes on with a batch
*!* file: we don't need to set the property in Windows
*!* Explorer.

TEXT TO lcBat NOSHOW
 set __COMPAT_LAYER=DisableThemes
 ThemeForm.exe
ENDTEXT
STRTOFILE(lcBat, "ThemeForm.bat")

*!* Run the program
RUN /n ThemeForm.bat
